IBM robot to assist the elderly, future of smart elderly care?

2017.06.14

Last December, IBM created a prototype IBM Multi-Purpose Elderly Care Robot Assistant (IBM MERA) in collaboration with Rice University to aid the elderly and their caregivers. It is a Watson-enabled application using CameraVitals technology to capture instant vital signs of the elderly, answer health-related questions, and determine whether the elderly has fallen etc. With data from atmospheric, motion, audio and olfactory sensors transmitted through the Internet of Things to caregivers, IBM MERA can help them know the elderly’s life in detail and provide precautionary medical measures and personalized nursing care. The development of information technologies, such as the Internet of Things, Cloud Computing, Big Data and Smart Hardware, all open doors to an innovative and advanced elderly care pattern that’s more diversified and convenient.

The Smart Elderly Care Pavilion, being a spotlight of the forthcoming 4th China International Silver Industry Exhibition in November, will display, as it always did, the trendy products and solutions based on the theory of “Internet plus smart elderly care”. Leading international brands of smart elderly care, such as China Telecom, Taiwan Huijia Health, Schneider, Anjubao, BestSkip, E-ling, Colorfuline, Sonka, i-altus, Aiphone, Limishu, ANKANGDA, LKang, CAPPU and CASNETVI will present to the public the state-of-the-art smart technologies and products for the elderly. It will be no surprise to see E-Secretary APP, a comprehensive platform for home elderly care, to meet visitors during the exhibition. As the first of its kind in China, E-Secretary APP, representing the outcome of technology and innovation, aims to provide services like intelligent guard, health management, and cloud call center to the elderly. Shenzhen Eagle Information, bringing a basket of smart hardware solutions for elderly care suppliers and clients, including secretarial service, cloud platform, smart box, and APP, aims to create an ecological circle for the industry. The “3H plus smart healthy living” of Meddo will usher in a novel home care age to cater to the needs of healthcare at home and nursing institutions.

The 4th China International Sliver Industry Summit Forum will make a feast of fascinating ideas by continuing focusing on smart elderly care, exploring the prospect of internet, the Internet of Things, Big Data, Cloud Computing and technologies for elderly care to foster upgrading of the industry. Concurrent events where experts and scholars share forward-looking insights into the current situation and trends of and policies concerning elderly care industry, will center around such hot topics as “Internet plus elderly care plus services—new elderly care pattern”, “Application and development of intelligence in elderly care” and “Smart sleep 3.0, safety and health management”, sparing no efforts to help attendees seek business opportunities.

Positioned as the best one-stop trade and commerce platform in China, SIC-China International Silver Industry Exhibition 2017 is going to be held on 16-18 November at Poly World Trade Center, Guangzhou, China. Expected to occupy an area of 30,000 m2, it will attract over 350 world-known brands to come and showcase their products covering rehabilitation and nursing, smart elderly care, senior housing, healthcare, household products for the elderly, and elderly care services.
